Richard WardManaging DirectorRichard briefly trained at Daniel Galvin before joining Neville Daniel in 1985 and meeting and working with many of the people that remain his colleagues today. After completing his apprenticeship, Richard left to work at Hari’s salon in SW7 before returning to Neville Daniel in the early 90’s to resume his career at a more senior level. Following a change of ownership, Richard met his wife to be Hellen when she was brought in to manage the ailing business. Months later, Richard and Hellen conducted a management buy-out and started the lengthy process of re-building the business. In 1997, after expiry of their lease, they moved to their Sloane Street premises, re-branding as Richard Ward. A further move to their current location in 2005 led to them developing the first ever Super Size Salon in the Capital and cultivating the business to its current position. Richard has an unrivalled media presence - as both resident hairdresser on GMTV’s LK Today and King of the TV Makeover, Richard has worked exclusively on several cult shows such as Trinny & Susannah, Extreme Makeover, Pop Goes the Band and Colleen’s Real Women. Richard teaches seminars in conjunction with Central St Martins for L’Oreal and has a key role as a Fellow of the Fellowship for British Hairdressing. Richard’s philosophy is simple; he wants women to Love Their Look and this ethos echoes through both his salon and his range of hair care and styling products. His vast and loyal clientele are testament to his core salon role as one of the most exceptional hairdressers of his generation. |

Hellen WardManaging DirectorManaging Director Hellen completed her hairdressing training with a chain of concession salons within department stores upon leaving school in 1983. At the tender age of 19 she realised her future lay in salon management and she started running the salon where she original worked. Quickly progressing through the company, Hellen was promoted to Assistant Regional Manager then Regional Manager, managing in-store salons up and down the country from Kendals in Manchester to Rackhams in Birmingham, gleaning a wealth of knowledge that led her to experience salon management at every level. She returned to the South East region in 1990 and was then promoted to General Manager of Harrods Hair and Beauty Salon, Children’s Salon and Barber Shop, transferring in 1992 to grow and develop the bankrupt Neville Daniel business that her bosses had purchased. After meeting Richard, they bought business from the receivers in a management buy-out and set about the task of turning it around by combining Richard’s creative abilities with Hellen’s business acumen. Married in 1994, Hellen and Richard are now parents to Elysia and Oliver. Whilst juggling her motherhood role with her career, Hellen continues to be responsible for the Marketing, Human Resources, branding and development of the company - a role which she relishes for its challenges and diversity. Hellen regular lectures on business both in the UK and internationally and regularly teaches her best-selling courses to other salon owners at the L’Oreal Academy, London. |

Julie NormanSalon ManagerSalon Manager Julie Norman has a career in the hair and beauty industry spanning 25 years. She met Richard and other senior team members whilst working at the Neville Daniel salon in the mid-Eighties, a working unit that is still at the core of the salon today. Julie’s unique managerial talents were immediately spotted by Hellen and Richard and she helped them to create the business since it’s inception in 1992. Julie’s expertise helped to form the foundations of the Richard Ward brand and her experience and dedication to the company are integral to the smooth running of the salon. With a razor sharp eye for detail and a near photographic memory, Julie’s numerical expertise is only equal to her passion and dedication for maintaining an unsurpassed level of customer service and exemplary standards of work from her team. Her diverse and challenging role encompasses Human Resources, Accounting, Management, Stock Control and Marketing. |

Gavin HoareFloor ManagerFloor Manager Gavin trained as a hairdresser with Richard in the mid 1980’s working his way up to Senior Stylist level. After a few years, Gavin changed direction by heading to university to gain a 2:1 degree in Sociology with Applied Women’s Studies. Gavin’s love of the industry led to him eventually returning to work at the salon on reception in the late 90’s. His unique and unrivalled talents as a ‘people person’ led to the creation of a new role for him as Customer Service Manager and an industry first - as Maitre D’ of the RW salon. Gavin’s crucial and diverse role as a key member of the management team make him integral to the salon’s success and smooth running, from both the customer and team member perspective. Gavin’s wonderful social skills lead to him enjoying a varied role and his uncompromising aim remains to make every client’s visit an exceptional one. A founder member of the RW team, Gavin is a vital part of the management structure and much beloved and adored by clients. |
Samantha GoodManager's AssistantResponsible for the company’s IT, and assistant to the Senior Management Team, Sam began working at the salon in 2003 as a receptionist. Her head for figures and talent for organisation was quickly spotted by the company and she was promoted to an office based Management role after gaining a sound understanding of the business at front line level. Sam has been responsible for developing the Richard Ward On-Line shop - its usability, content, look and feel - as well as being involved in several other technological advances and projects the company is undertaking. Her multi-faceted role encompasses marketing, Human Resources, branding and legal work and accounting. Working with Managing Director Hellen and Salon manager Julie, Sam is a much valued and key member of the Richard Ward team. |

Karla RegonCustomer Liaison ManagerCustomer Liaison Manager Karla began her career as an apprentice in 1999, and after 3 years decided the technical arena wasn’t for her. Her talents lied within her excellent customer care skills, which the company decided to cultivate by creating a unique, bespoke role for her. After a travelling sabbatical, Karla came back to resume her position in 2007 and qualified as a Kerastase Ambassador. With Richard Ward being the only salon in London to offer Kerastase’s Le Diagnostic Advance Hair & Scalp Camera, Karla is unique in her ability to carry out the full diagnosis and analysis service for RW clients. Karla works with the reception team and Floor Manager Gavin to ensure every client’s salon experience exceeds their expectations. Karla’s inimitable charm and talents at making people feel welcome make her an integral part of the Richard Ward team. |

Louise SmytheHead ReceptionistHead Receptionist Louise has been a vital part of the Richard Ward team since 1999. A warm, sincere and sunny customer service natural, Louise has progressed to running a client friendly reception together with her long-standing colleague and sister, Belinda. Louise’s philosophy to client care is simple; nothing is too much trouble. She encourages her team to go out of their way to accommodate the client’s every need, ensuring they receive a friendly, efficient service which is sincere and welcoming. Belinda SmytheReceptionistSister to head receptionist Louise, Belinda has been at the salon since 1997. Prior to this, Belinda worked as a receptionist at the John Freida salon. A mother of two, Belinda now job-shares with her fellow reception colleague Laura. Belinda believes the reception is the customer’s first point of contact at the salon and aims to make the booking process as smooth and relaxed as possible. Belinda’s expertise lies in recommending the right stylist, technician and therapist for the client by gaining a good understanding of their needs and her warm and sincere approach to customer service. |

Laura FergusonReceptionistReceptionist Laura joined the salon as a Saturday girl in 1995 and began her apprenticeship after leaving school in 1996. After successfully qualifying and working on the floor, Laura’s career took a change of direction. She decided hairdressing wasn’t for her but wanted to stay working at the salon so joined the reception team in 1999. Now job-sharing with Belinda, Laura is now one of our most long serving and competent receptionists and her work history enables her to manage her role at the desk with a unique understanding. A favourite with clients, Laura’s sunny disposition and excellent attention to detail make her a vital part of our reception team. |

Roger BritnellArtistic DirectorRichard’s Artistic Director Roger originally trained at Sassoons, working as Art Director at several prestigious west End salons in his early career and heading up several European tours for companies such as Wella and Renbow. Roger has worked with leading photographers such as David Bailey, John Swannell and Clive Arden as well as being involved in many shows and seminars. Having worked with Richard for over 25 years, Roger now leads the in-salon Artistic Team in their show and photographic work, compiling Trends Predictions and being responsible for over-seeing the salon’s media work. Roger’s innate cutting ability and grasp of fashion trends are the benchmark for the salon’s styling team. Fiona ChandlerCreative Director & Bridal ExpertCreative Director Fiona trained at college completing her City & Guilds before working with cult salon Hugh & Alan for 5 years, where she learned to specialise in chignons and bridal hair. Fiona then moved to work with Richard, where she has remained for nearly 20 years. Fiona’s attention to detail and precision hairdressing is unrivalled, and has led to her reputation as the pre-eminent Bridal hair and chignon expert in the capital. Robert GibbsCreative DirectorCreative Director Robert has worked at the salon since 1994, after previously working with Richard for over 10 years during their training together. Patrick BoninStyle DirectorStyle Director Patrick has been at the salon since 2000. From Lyon, France, Patrick worked in Paris at Jean Louis David for 4 years before coming to London, where he worked in a prestigious salon before joining the Richard Ward team. Fabio BonelliStyle DirectorStyle Director Fabio has enjoyed an international career spanning the major fashion capitals of Europe. After training at the Vidal Sassoon academy, Fabio worked as a senior stylist at Nicky Clarke, working on shows at London Fashion week and other session work. Fabio joined Richard Ward in 2001and has undertaken a host of session, photographic and show work including shoots for Vogue and several catwalk shows. Fabio assists Richard in teaching both the in-salon training programme and at the L’Oreal Academy, where Richard’s seminar in conjunction with Central St Martins encourages students to understand how to compile photographic collections. Adolfo VollonoStyle DirectorStyle Director Adolfo trained in Milan in his native Italy before arriving in London to work as a session hairdresser. Adolfo worked with fashion labels Donna Karan, Antonio Berardi and Ben de Lisi, often assisting cult British session hairdresser Sam Mc Knight. Adolfo joined Richard Ward in 1999 and has gained a huge following of male and female clients. Karen TaylorSenior StylistSenior Stylist Karen completed her NVQ in Hairdressing and beauty Therapy before joining Richard Ward in 1997 to start her apprenticeship under our in-salon training programme. A member of our Art Team, Karen also now teaches our trainees in conjunction with Nando, Education Director. Karen has been involved in a host of media, TV and session work including shows and photographic work. Karen’s unique skill in complete and thorough hair and scalp diagnosis have led to her trademark consultation skills and her expertise in the theory of hair and scalp and nutrition ; in her Style School session she teaches clients to re-create their look at home, enabling them to get a professional finish. Ashleigh RoseSenior StylistSenior Stylist Ashleigh joined the salon team in 1996 as an apprentice and completed the in-house training programme gained qualifications in NVQ Level 1 & 2. Ashleigh has progressed her career to Senior Stylist Level and now assists in teaching a new generation of apprentices. Ashleigh’s diverse experience of working on numerous photo shoots, fashion shows, sessions and assisting Richard on numerous TV makeovers have led to her being a stalwart of the RW styling team. Edna ArujoStylistStylist Edna originates from Portugal and joined the RW team in 2000. Upon interview, her talents were spotted and she was encouraged to undertake the company’s training programme and develop her long-standing passion to be a hairdresser. Now part of the RW Artistic team, Edna has been part of many varied sessions, shoots and shows and is also involved in teaching the company’s apprentices. Sonia JittlaStylist & Racoon Hair Extensions SpecialistStylist and Hair Extensions Specialist Sonia joined the salon in 1999, completing the in-house company training programme. All-rounder Sonia has worked with Richard on many of his TV makeovers and transformations, assisting him on shows like What Not to Wear and Extreme makeover. Sabrina ThompsonStylistStylist Sabrina completed 2 years training at the Joshua Galvin Academy before joining the Richard Ward team in 2003 to undertake the company’s in-house training programme. Completing her training in late 2007, Sabrina has assisted Richard and the Artistic Team on various shoots, shows, seminars and sessions. She has worked with Richard on GMTV, What Not to Wear, Trinny & Susannah Undress and Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway. Sabrina has also worked on magazine shoots for OK, Heat, Woman’s Own and the Guardian and been involved in regular makeovers for the Sun. Now a member of the Artistic Team, Sabrina has worked on shows for Caroline Charles and Marc Jacobs and now assists Education Director Nando in the training of the current apprentice team. Foster (James Foster)Graduate StylistGraduate Stylist Foster joined the Richard Ward team in 2005, completing the in-house training programme in 2008. Samantha TurnerApprentice StylistApprentice Stylist Sam joined the Richard Ward team in 2004 and completed the company’s in-house training programme including qualification to NVQ Level 2. Working one-to-one with Richard and Education Director Nando, Sam gained a wide experience of TV, session and photographic work and has now worked with Richard on shows like Trinny & Susannah Undress, Pop Goes the Band and Colleen’s Real Women. Danni LangleyApprentice StylistOne of our fledgling apprentice stylist, Danni is fresh from having completed our 4 year Richard Ward in-house training programme and is now working on salon clients. Danni is an excellent example of how good training works. Having just completed the Kerastase Ambassador and Specialist Course, she is fully qualified in diagnosing the Kerastase range and is also one of our Kerastase Le Diagnostic Avance Scalp Camera technicians. Mario CharalambousTechnical DirectorTechnical Director Mario completed his training before moving on to join he team at Harrods Hair & Beauty Salon in 1989 as their youngest recruited stylist. Here, he met and worked with the future Mrs Ward, Hellen. After a working sabbatical in Australia, Mario transferred to the Elizabeth Arden salon in Piccadilly before returning to work with Hellen at her and Richard’s inaugural salon in 1994, being promoted to Technical Director in 2001. Passionate about his department, Mario is both forward thinking and motivated to lead the way in colour and technical innovations within the salon, introducing new and revolutionary services like organic colour, keratin infusion therapies and his own technique, Cento. His near encyclopaedic technical knowledge was evident when he received one of the highest pass marks in his L’Oreal Colour Degree. A vital and integral part of the salon’s success, Mario trains, educates, mentors and manages his team and services his huge and loyal clientele, ensuring his major commitment to making people happy is at the ethos of his work. |

David VinerPremier TechnicianPremier Technician David decided to pursue a career in hairdressing at the age of 25. Prior to this, David was at university where he gained a degree in Sociology and Politics. David trained privately, attending courses at Toni & Guy, Sassoon and L’Oreal, where he was one of the first technicians to complete the Colour Specialist Degree. David opened a salon in Bristol which he sold in 2002 and moved to London where he joined the salon. David is a seasoned professional, with a wealth of technical knowledge and a high level of colour expertise and is much in demand with a hugely busy clientele of celebrities and new clients. David has risen to premier league status within the salon and now commands a 3 week waiting list from loyal clients. A great conversationalist, David combines his innate talent with his unique style of classic, signature colour to provide a completely personalised and individual couture colour look. |

Maria McBryanPremier TechnicianPremier Technician Maria has enjoyed a colouring spanning 25 years and is one of London’s top colourists. Maria trained at Vidal Sassoon, where she worked for 10 years, travelling world-wide to participate in shows and seminars and coordinating the salon training programme. Her Sassoon career culminated in her managing a successful colour department within a Sassoon flagship salon, leaving to work at Neville Daniel. After a brief spell at another west end salon, she re-joined her old Neville Daniel colleagues when she returned to work with Richard in 1994. Maria then qualified to NVQ Level 3 and in 2007 completed her L’Oreal Colour Specialist Degree. Maria’s signature style is natural and classic - she adores colour changes and intricate technical work. Her particular field of expertise lies in her expert precision highlighting technique and her speciality is natural looking all over colour making her much in demand from her dedicated and ever growing loyal clientele. |

Thomas SimonsPremier TechnicianWith an international hairdressing career spanning 25 years, Premier Technician Thomas is one of London and Sydney’s pre-eminent colourists, having worked at John Frieda and Nicky Clarke in London and Anthony Whittaker and Joh Bailey in Australia. Recently completing his L’Oreal Colour Degree, Thomas takes time to listen and understand the vision his clients have, and advises on a creative, bespoke yet practical approach to their colour needs. Adam RussellPremier TechnicianSenior Technician Adam joined the salon in 2001 as an apprentice, working his way through the in-house company training programme. Adam immediately gelled with the team and was inspired and motivated to progress his career to senior level. Adam has attended numerous L’Oreal training courses and seminars and has worked closely with his mentor Technical Director Mario on various shows, session and development projects. Kathy WimshurstSenior TechnicianSenior Technician Kathy joined Richard Ward in 1995, completing her in-house training to NVQ Level 2 standard, competing in many competitions and attending a host of courses and seminars with L’Oreal. Qualified at age 19, and serving a busy clientele, Kathy was promoted to Senior Technician just 3 years later. Talented and creative, Kathy loves experimenting with new ideas and techniques to create and develop a bespoke and individual look for each client. Sarah felt compelled to follow her path to being a detailed, consistent colourist because she loved the artistic expression and creativity that colour offered her. Excelling at her training, Sarah helped to create the benchmark to which our young generation of colourists aspire. Sarah’s passion is creating contrasting colour, but is equally precise with both natural and more experimental tones. Danielle TaylorSenior TechnicianSenior Technician Danielle started her hairdressing career with an apprenticeship at John Frieda. She soon realised she had a natural aptitude for colour and after qualifying, perused her career at Michael Van Clarke where she worked her way up to Senior Colour Technician. Danielle joined the Richard Ward team in 2006, where she has refined her work to that of a standard that rivals her contemporaries. Danielle has built a steady and loyal clientele with an exemplary client satisfaction record. Her innate creative coupled with her comprehensive, in-depth analysis and consultation results in a thorough and diligent all-round technical service. Ella JohnsonGraduate TechnicianGraduate Technician Ella joined the company in 2004 to commence her training and was immediately drawn to the buzz and excitement of the salon atmosphere. Ella chose to specialise in colour after completing her in-house apprenticeship in 2007, being mentored and trained in-depth by her senior colleagues, and finally working her way up from Apprentice Technician to Graduate level. A colour natural, Ella’s raw talent has been harnessed to create a polished professional who enjoys every element of her work, evident in her growing clientele. Ella has been involved in many creative aspects of the salon’s work - from her involvement in the inception of Cento to working with Richard and creating some of the colour transformations and makeovers on shows such as What Not to Wear and Extreme Makeover. |

Gina CharalambousBeauty DirectorSpa Director and Senior Therapist Gina gained a CIBTAC diploma and honours in Electrolysis on completion of her training in Central London. Gina returned to her native Cyprus to run her own salon in a 5 star hotel before returning to the UK in 2000 to work at the salon as a beauty Therapist. Sister to Technical Director Mario, Gina was promoted to Spa Director in 2007. Gina has helped to introduce new and innovative therapies and treatments into the Spa, including her new speciality eyelash extensions. Gina is also renowned for her expert electrolysis and her speedy yet comfortable waxing and her loyal clientele are testament to her all-round technical abilities and unique skills and talents in beauty therapy. Gina has recently introduced Ellipse IPL Laser Therapy for hair removal, skin rejuvenation and pigmentation. |

Clare joined the Metrospa team in 2005, and is an integral part of the beauty team. Clare has developed a loyal and busy client base and has a diverse clientele from celebrities to men. Voted one of London’s leading therapist by Tatler magazine in 2007, Clare’s speciality is her infamous hot waxing and indulgent massage. Clare is also qualified in Aromatherapy and Indian Head massage. |

Mary HarringtonSenior Beauty TherapistBeauty Therapist Mary trained in Cork in her native Ireland, qualifying in CIDESCO and CIBTEC. She completed a make-up diploma in Dublin before moving to London to join the Metrospa team in 2007. Mary has a love of skin care and aims to ensure all clients leave with a full understanding of products and advise to incorporate a good skin routine into their lives. Make-up is her particular area of expertise - from bridal to day make-up and evening to red carpet glamour looks, Mary’s innate love of skin care and talent for make up is evident. Mary’s skills as a therapist are all encompassing - from waxing and massage to manicures and pedicures, Mary continues to look after a growing clientele with her warm and welcoming disposition and high level of expertise. |

Tipa KaewhinManicuristManicurist and Pedicurist Tipa began working at the salon in 1995, recruited by her mother in law Tew, our late and beloved Manicurist. Tipa then left to look after her 3 daughters and returned to us in 2008. She has since regained some of her loyal clients and has also developed a burgeoning new clientele who all appreciate her expert services and attention to detail. Renowned for her perfect yet speedy and precision painting as well as her rejuvenating massages, Tipa’s manicures and pedicures are much in demand. A fully qualified nail technician, Emma has been in the nail industry for 12 years and has worked in nail bars in Bond Street and on Chelsea's Kings Road. Emma works in the Metrospa on Thursdays and Saturdays, and is already enjoying huge client demand for her efficient, speedy and thorough manis and pedi's.
